In 2007, Punto Informatico described the atmosphere of the game as pleasant and also praised the game's free availability. Thankfully, in newer versions, you can actually fight Nolok now. Milestone 1 ended on a cliffhanger, where it is revealed that Penny is in another fortress, which is very disappointing, as the player had to go through 26+ levels just to get this ending.Although the game is great, it doesn't have as many distinct elements from the game it's based off of/inspired by compared to SuperTuxKart. The console versions don't get as many updates as the PC and Android versions, such the Wii version, which hasn't even been updated for over 10 years, even though it says that Milestone 2 is "coming soon".Unlike Mario, there is a chance of you getting an extra life from an item box, rather than you having to collect 100 coins. The game surprisingly has a decent length that expands with each newly released versions, as it can be beaten in about 5 hours. The game finally lets you fight Nolok himself in later versions of the game, unlike in Milestone 1, as in that version, the game ended on a weird cliffhanger. The game is available on over 15 platforms, including consoles! (mostly homebrew) However, the console versions usually don't get as many updates as the PC versions, as stated in BQ #1.Adding onto WIR #4, there are also contributed Bonus levels that were released and added to the game in order to celebrate the game's 20th year anniversary, adding even more content to the game, which is a nice touch. The soundtrack is surprisingly great for an open-source game, and thankfully, most of it is original, instead of it just using royalty free music like other games.Similar to SuperTuxKart, the game even has a level editor where you can make custom levels in-game, and as well as install addon levels that were entirely custom-made by the community. The graphics and art style look pretty nice and go well with the game's platforming genre and the theme/tone of the game, given that it was drawn by Ingo Ruhnke, the artist for Pingu, another open-source game starring Tux.Just like Mario, the controls are very tight and responsive, but can also be challenging to master, given that they were made to closely resemble the controls from the mainline Mario games.for the most part, it's a pretty good clone of said game, even for an open-source one. Despite being too similar to Super Mario Bros.At the end of each world, there is a boss, and eventually, the player will fight Nolok himself at the end of the game and rescue Penny. Tux can jump under bonus blocks and get power-ups/coins from them, such as a fire power-up that functions similar to the Fire Flower from the aforementioned game. The core gameplay is similar to that of the Super Mario Bros. Run and jump through SuperTux, the sidescrolling 2D platformer starring Tux, the Linux mascot.Instead of Mario, the game stars Tux the Penguin as the protagonist, who has to save his girlfriend, Penny, from Nolok, who seems to be inspired/based off by/of Bowser. What is the current state of the Early Access version? Of course, along the way it's possible that we develop some more features. “The main goal that must be achieved before calling SuperTux full and complete is to finish the Story Mode, which for the moment includes only two worlds. How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version? If everything goes smoothly, with the workforce we currently have, we expect to finish the game around 2025.” “It really depends on how many people contribute over time. This is a community-driven game, and anyone who would like to help and participate is welcome to do so!”Īpproximately how long will this game be in Early Access? “The game isn't yet complete, but is in a very playable and enjoyable state already.
